Tasty Travels — Italy

Ciao amici, those globetrotting quilters made a stop in Italy and the aroma in the shop was fantastic. Chef Mario Burgess made a fabulous Pizza Blanca with mozzarella, romano, parmesan, artichoke hearts, …and it tasted even better than it smelled. Making the perfect pizza wasn’t enough for our own Iron Chef; she also brought a ginormous 28″ in diameter pizza with the best Italian sausage ever on it. I know, enough about the food — on to the quilting.  The quilt this month is the “Italian Meatball” with colorways; cappuccino — browns & tans, Lasagna — reds, and Spumoni — pastels. It is also Breast Cancer Awareness month and Lisa had gifts to remind everyone to get their Mammograms!!

‘Tis ALMOST the Season…Do you have a Plan?

It is October 12th and I decided I need to make a plan in order to get my Christmas projects finished. I should say started and finished  ! I currently don’t have any large projects planned, which is a good thing since time is growing short. Only 73 DAYS UNTIL CHRISTMAS, YIKES!

I have my project for the fabulous Annual Employees Christmas Party to make, and a few small things for the grandkids. I need to line them up, put them in order and get working. The Christmas Party project will take the longest so…that one is first up.  I’ll try to keep you updated on my progress.

What about you? Do you have more projects than time? We have some great quick projects at the shop, and a few classes that are designed to make those last minute gifts for a co-worker, neighbor, teacher, or secret pal. Stop by the shop or check out the class schedule online.

We got in a great looking line from Moda last week, Evening Mist, by Sentimental Studios. It’s taupes, grays, & gray-greens. We also got in Jo Morton’s Stafford County, a reproductions line. Eight pieces of Laurel Burch’s Jungle Soul Flannel, it’s luscious. We already cut strip quilt kits out of it, so…less work for you. The fabrics are going to just keep coming, so make sure you stop by the shop or check out the What’s New Page on our website. (Click Heidi in the Sidebar to go to the website).

I posted a new hint, check it out. The International Quilt Market was this past week; we will be getting new books, patterns, & notions that were debuted there.

See you at the Shop or here in blogland.

Tasty Travels – Ireland

Those traveling colleens took a wee trip to “The Emerald Isle” recently. Tour guide, Lisa, planned a lovely day, including a gorgeous Beef and Guinness Stew, it smelled and tasted so great you could actually see those rolling green hills. The quilt this month was…wait for it…Irish Chain; with colorways of Bonnie Lassie — pastels, Shamrock — greens, and Pot of Gold — golds & yellows. Everyone also received their own Lucky Charms!

Be sure to check back to see where they head next. With Lisa in charge, you know it will definitely be an adventure.

There is a new hint posted, check it out. Also, if you have a hint to share, please use the form on Heidi-Idy’s Hints page. If we use your hint you’ll receive a gift certificate to the shop.

We’re getting into the Holiday Season, (I know, slap me for mentioning it), the shop will be getting more fabric, notions, & gifts weekly. We have new kits made up and classes galore to help you get your holiday gifts made.

Go dtí an chéad uair eile,

Heidi-Idy

Photos of Jackie’s Quilts

Here are  photos of Jackie’s quilts:

This is a textile mill in New York Mills, NY. The mills are visable from our childhood home backyard. The photos are of my family that worked there. There is a photo of the 1900 census that states my great-great-grandfather and his son and 2 daughters, one of whom was my great-grandmother, Sadie worked in the mills as carders, spoolers and spinners.

The Bazaar, Open House & Fall Classes

Thank you to all who attended our 6th Annual Customer Appreciation Event. This year we had a Bazaar instead of our usual auction. It was time to change things up just a bit and I think everyone had a great time. We had 30 gorgeous baskets that were given away to lucky winners, a great WYSNS tote bag for shopping at your fav quilt shop was given to each attendee, door prizes, and then there were the games. We played topple the spools, pin the block on the quilt, Quilter want a Quacker, and ring toss. For eats we had peanuts, popcorn, sno-cones, little bundt cakes, cheese straws, and the ever popular creme puffs. Here are some photos from the Bazaar.

By the Sea Retreat

The August Retreat theme was By the Sea…as you can  see from the photos below the theme was taken literally by some quilters!!! Judy and Kristie did their usual fabo job; we had a ”find the message in a bottle” hunt, a very tasty seafood dinner, and awesome breakfasts. The take home gifts  were perfect for the theme, there was plenty of salt water taffy for all and most of all lots of quilting got done. The Block for the weekend was made with the Fruit Ladies fabric…large butts made from fruit, perfect for this group  ! We had two brand new retreaters and of course, treated them appropriately

This was also a special retreat because Her Royal Highness, Queen Lisa celebrated her 50th birthday the Sunday of Retreat and it was her last retreat as Queen (though we all know Lisa IS Queen for Life). Time to appoint her Royal Successor.

Summer is Coming to an End

You wouldn’t know it by the 90 degree weather we’ve been experiencing, but the end of summer is fast approaching. Moms are getting ready to do the “school is in session happy dance” and will have more time for quilting!!

We have a very busy few days coming up at the shop. The August “By the Sea” Retreat starts tonight and goes through Sunday. The Queen is having a momentous birthday this weekend also; you know we all can’t wait to hassle Her Majesty about turning 50! Stay tuned for photos.

Tuesday, Sept. 1st is our 6th Annual Customer Appreciation Night. This year we are changing things up a bit. For the past 5 years we’ve had an auction, this year we are having an Old Fashioned Bazaar. Everyone will have chances on beautiful baskets filled with quilting goodies, we’ll play games, have great munchies and everyone will have a take home gift as a thank you from the shop. Make sure you stop by to register.

Stop back and check out the photos from the Retreat and the Bazaar in a few days. See you at the shop or here in blogland….
