Something to think about…

I have been working a lot of hours at our local food pantry this month, filling in for many people who are on vacation.  We provide food for about 700 families in Blacksburg, Virginia.  These families can make one trip to the food pantry a month.

This is what the shelves look like when we get started in the morning.

Here is another section.

It is amazing to witness how all this food comes together to help the community!

These boxes of bread come from Kroger five days a week!

The table is filled with desserts that came in today from Kroger.

These cases of food came from individuals who purchased them at Food Lion!

Just this week we’ve had donations from:

  • Starbuck’s
  • Panera
  • Kentucky Fried Chicken
  • Chipolte
  • Food Lion
  • Kroger’s
  • a boy scout troop
  • several churches
  • farmers and gardeners sharing their harvest (I know where my extra zucchini is going)
  • many, many individuals

It is truly amazing to see and be a part of!

Today I got a call from a butcher offering us ten processed deer.  Of course I said yes!  Now I just have to figure out how to get them picked up and delivered and stored…I don’t think my mini van will fit 10 huge cases of venison…

When you are out grocery shopping, remember to support your local food pantries whenever you can!  Especially during the summer when the school kids are home eating all day long!

Later, Sandra
