Civil War Commemoration

This year marks the 150th anniversary of the beginning of the Civil War. (1861-1865)  All around the quilting world many shops and authors are making Civil War style quilts as a rememberance.

As you know, Stitch ‘n Stuff carries a huge variety of Civil War reproduction fabric and kits.  We also offer classes with our very own “Aunt Pitty Pat”, teaching Civil War quilting as well as history.

Here is Aunt Pitty Pat, teaching a couple of years ago.

Pitty Pats current class ends in February, but she another class coming, perhaps in May.  The details of a Pitty Pat tea on April 12th (the day the first shots were fired on Fort Sumter in 1861) are being worked on as we ‘speak’.  This would be a fun way to see what creative ideas are coming up.

In another area, Barbabra Brackman, known Civil War quilt historian has a wonderful new blog.  It contains a free pattern for a 8 ” Civil War quilt block each week, as well as loads of history!  This would be another opportunity to work on a reproduction quilt.
